MX3 and EMX2 – Alex Salvini took the pole at his home event in Faenza Date: 2009-07-04 21:24:49 | Author: Andreja Prel FAENZA (ITALY), 4 July 2009 – Alex Salvini took the fifth following MX3 pole position at his home event in Faenza, Italy. Christophe Charlier and Harri Kullas won EMX2 Qualifying Races.
MX3
This was already fifth following Qualifying Practice that Italian rider Alex Salvini (Husqvarna) was invincible. If tomorrow the tradition of Italian wins in Faenza will continue, it means that Salvini should win also the event. At last two MX3 events that Faenza held in 2006 and 2007, the victory always staid in Italy. But there are two long races to go and many riders are eager for it. Salvini, who lives close to Faenza, said: »I know this race track very well and I know that also other riders sometimes come here to practice. The track is good prepared. Today I am not satisfied with my riding because I could be also faster, but I took the pole.«
As this is the home event for his team Husqvarna Tecno B, Salvini feels some pressure. He explained: »Many friends, sponsors and supporters will come tomorrow, of course it means some pressure for me but it is a nice feeling to ride at home.«
Slovenian rider Matevz Irt (Honda) from Italian Team MB made the second time. Pierre Alexandre Renet (France) from the team Suzuki Bodo Schmidt was third. MX3 Championship leader Julien Vanni (France) made eighth fastest time.
EMX2
In the EMX2 European Championsip there were two completely different Qualifying Races. Riders in the first Qualifying Race were competing in hot weather and dry track. Before the second Qualifying Race there came heavy rain and the track was muddy.
French rider Christophe Charlier (Yamaha Gariboldi Racing) won the first race in front of Jeffrey Herlings (KTM JM Racing). Charlier, who is leading the EMX2 Championship for nine points, said: »I was in front after a good start. I tried to find the best possible starting position for tomorrow's race. The race track is fast and actually it does not include any really difficult parts.« Third was his teammate Klemen Gercar from Slovenia. Italian Team Gariboldi is one of those, for whom the event in Faenza is very important.
The second EMX2 Qualifying Race was more exciting. Matthias Walkner (KTM, Austria) and Harri Kullas (KTM, Finland) were fighthing for the win all the time. Walkner was leading and Kullas was becoming closer. Two laps to the end Kullas finally passed Walkner, who missed the good opportunity to win the Qualifying Race. Rasmus Jorgensen (Suzuki) from Denmark finished third.
