Laier takes part in Mantova Starcross Date: 2010-02-08 11:35:43 | Author: Daniele Rizzi German Stephanie Laier wrote her name in the Mantova Starcross history books as the 2009 FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion was the first female racer to take part in the event which started off something like 27 years ago.
Laier joined the whole Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team –whose newest recruit Tony Cairoli won the Starcross onboard the 350 SX-F machine- and took part to the whole event. Mantova is definitely a meaningful race track to Laier. Having raced her first World Championship round in Mantova in 2008 because a shoulder injury made her miss the opening round in Bulgaria, Laier took her first season’s win there but eventually lost the Title to Lancelot.
At the Starcross instead Laier struggled: for the first time in her career she took part in an event gathering some of the best international MX1 and MX2 racers. Other than her team mates and 2009 MX1 and MX2 World Champions Cairoli and Musquin, Laier had to face racers such as Alessi, Desalle, Philippaerts, Barragan, Pourcel, Ramon, Albertson and many more.
Laier was 16th in the MX2 class and gather valuable experience for the forthcoming Women’s World Championship season starting off in Sevlievo, Bulgaria, on the April 4 weekend. Photo: Ray Archer |
